October 3, 2011 Why has “Breaking Bad” risen in popularity lately?
In the last two weeks, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the sentence “So, I just started watching ‘Breaking Bad’…” Not only that, but every time someone has said that, they have also said they are already in the second season after only watching it for a day or two.
So why is a show that is in it’s fourth season and that aired in 2008 getting so many new followers just in the last two weeks?
One word: Netflix.
The first two seasons of the show were released on Netflix streaming in mid-September. If I had ever doubted how many of my friends were Netflix Instant junkies like myself, then I don’t anymore.
It truly is fascinating how fast this show spread like wildfire among my peers. None of them can really relate to the main character, Walt, a middle-aged science teacher turned meth-dealer. So why are so many of them now hooked on this show? I’m going to have to assume it’s the fresh plot line and “badassery” that the show possesses. I personally like the unique camera angles to give us interesting perspectives and the way every episode ends on a very dramatic note, but not always at the climax of the episode.
However, I really don’t think that is the whole answer to my question. So if you have any insight, lay it on me.
Here’s a taste for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about. Enjoy.
